Where the magic happens.

The T2 W has a high-quality dual stage split-passive MM phono preamp – this is the first time a Pro-Ject turntable has used an integrated phono-preamp of this level. We considered this a necessity in order to maximize the Wi-Fi performance.

We have added the latest Wi-Fi technology into the package, including all the latest WLAN standards and 2x2 MIMO allowing for theoretical speeds which are faster than modern, typical internet connections. And with MIMO we get maximum signal stability and protection against package and data loss. All this is necessary, because with the T2 W you can either stream in our standard compressed format – enabling maximum compatibility – or in 24bit/48kHz lossless, for selected high-end streamers like our Stream Box S2 Ultra.

FAQs

The T2 W creates a MP3 or FLAC encoded livestream and hands it over via the UPNP protocol to compatible UPNP streamers/speakers/amps. The requirements are that your streamer can play MP3 live streams. This is a standard as almost all web-radio stations are MP3 encoded. The second requirement is that your streamer is UPNP capable, see FAQ entry 2). For the very few and rare streamers that are not UPNP capable, the T2 W has an alternate stream for them.

Look for any indications if your streamer/speaker/amp supports UPNP. An easy way to find out is to use conventional UPNP streaming apps. Those are available for free on the app stores (eg. mConnect lite, Bubble UPNP). If those apps find your streaming devices, then also the T2 W will find your streaming devices.

The T2 W will most likely work also with other manufacturers' devices, but here is a list of manufacturers, where we have so far been able to test for compatibility with the T2 W: Pro-Ject Audio Systems, Musical Fidelity, Andover Audio, Arylic, AVM, Cambridge, Denon, Heos, HiFi Rose, iEAST, iFi, KEF, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Rotel, Samsung, Sonos, Sonus Faber, Triangle, Volumio, WiiM

Only selected devices are compatible with the lossless FLAC stream. FLAC livestreams streams are way less common and are not a typical standard that manufacturers put into their product requirements sheets. The FLAC stream is intended to be used with High-End streamers (like our Stream Box S2 Ultra). The T2 W’s lossless stream works with: Pro-Ject Audio Systems: Stream Box S2 Ultra, Stream Box S2; Musical Fidelity: MX-Stream; HiFi Rose; Sonos; WiiM

This is true and normal for UPNP streams. From a technical standpoint, the UPNP approach allows us wide compatibility, but each UPNP receiver is buffering the stream by itself, and those buffer times are not standardized. So, each receiver buffers incoming UPNP livestreams differently long, resulting in different latencies that we cannot affect.

The WiFi setup works via BLE (=Bluetooth Low Energy). Please make sure the App has Bluetooth access and Bluetooth is turned on on your phone or setup device. BLE scanning may take 5 – 10 seconds, so please give the App some time to scan for your T2 W.

Yes, you may connect the T2 W via ethernet cable to your router, which will give network access immediately, and configure WiFi from the Pro-Ject Control App. Or you enter the WiFi settings on your phone and look for the hotspot the T2 W is creating (starting with PROJECT followed by a string of numbers and letters). Connect to this WiFi network and you can configure your own home network. Note: this hotspot is closed, once the T2 W has a network connection and opened automatically once it doesn’t.

This is due to the buffering taking place on your output device. UPNP buffering is done by the receiver and different receiving devices may have different buffer times. This is why the stream may sometimes start a few seconds after you have tapped your output streamer of choice, depending on which streamer you have.

Use the secondary stream. Check the downloads section for the secondary stream guide or the full manual.

Yes, that’s possible. Check the downloads section for the secondary stream guide or the full manual.

The secondary stream can be enabled in the advanced options. From there you can copy & paste the stream address into web-browsers or add custom radio stations. Check out our secondary stream guide or the full manual in the downloads section.

Your streamer/speaker/amp might not support the playback of MP3 encoded livestreams. Playing files with a concrete start/end is from a technical implementation standpoint different than playing livestreams. We have found that hi-fi streamers almost always support livestreams, because they are also able to play web-radio, and web-radio stations use the same standard. Some Smart TV’s (or other non hi-fi devices) might support UPNP but not livestream playback. Under those circumstances, they cannot play the T2 W’s livestream. Still, you might be able to build yourself a workaround using the alternate stream. Check out the alternate stream guide or the full manual in the downlaods section.

This could be because those devices are then not correctly re-broadcasting their new IP address when switching between wired and wireless networks. Please restart your streamer/speaker/amp, which forces a new IP address broadcast on start-up.

You can in theory stream to hundreds of different devices before the T2 W’s modern WiFi or CPU run out of steam.

Playback is only synchronous if you group your receiving devices together in their native app and then have the T2 W stream to that group. From a technical standpoint, the UPNP approach allows us such wide compatibility, but each UPNP receiver is buffering the stream by itself, and those buffer times are not standardized. So, each receiver buffers incoming UPNP livestreams for different times, resulting in different latencies that we cannot affect.

The analogue RCA output is completely separate from the Wi-Fi section. We took great care to separate the analogue from all digital sections to make sure the analogue output stays exactly that. A fully analogue, highest quality output like on any other Pro-Ject turntable. The analogue output is not digitized and therefore also not time-delayed or synched in any other way to the digital streaming output!
