Schick Sisters – A Family Affair

One-take live album

Recorded in the Pro-Ject headquarters

The Austrian acoustic trio Schick Sisters plays a live concert in front of an audience, joined by friends from the Austrian music scene. Three-part vocal harmonies are at the centre, with solo instruments, traditional harmonica, varied percussion and rich low brass around them. The music draws on singer- songwriter, classical and jazz traditions. Made in Austria.

Concept

The album runs across four continuous sides with no gaps between tracks. It is meant for focused listening, not background music. The track order follows the concert program. Each side opens with a song and closes with an instrumental. The album ends with “Lullaby” and the encore “Merci”. The audience’s applause is kept in.

All Analog: One take. One chance.

No post-production, no music edits – every note, every breath, captured in a single pass. In keeping with the traditional approach to recording vocal harmonies, the Schick Sisters were positioned in a semicircle and recorded with a single microphone – a Brauner VM1 tube microphone. All other musicians were arranged around the vocal core and captured as part of a unified sound image.
